The Bushwick Hotel Premiere New Video for "Bittersweet," + Live Web Series

Brooklyn-based rockers The Bushwick Hotel have been strong collaborators and creatives around NYC the past few years, and they have much material to show for it. We're excited to premiere some cool new projects that they are now ready to share.

First up, their new music video for "Bittersweet," their latest highlighted track off new album Graffiti of a Young Man's Mind:

The following is the backstory, as told by the band:

"When the Bushwick Hotel finished their debut record Graffiti of a Young Man's mind there was no way for them to know the adventures this record wouldtake them on, the relationships it would forge, or in fact how literal some of the track titles would become over time. None fit this description more than Bittersweet.

While working on the record, and supporting their music by selling art on Bedford Ave. in Williamsburg, the band befriended photographer, director and artist Cathrine Westergaard. Quickly a fruitful and thriving creative relationship was forged between Westergaard, the band and editor Dale Krupla.

The fruits of this relationship included a 12 page spread in Australian magazine Kurv, a gallery showing at the famed C24 gallery in Chelsea, several events, and a video for the title track off Graffiti of a Young Man's Mind.

"We were very ambitious.  The music video for Graffiti of a Young Man’s Mind was shot in three locations in just one day," explains guitarist Rudy Temiz. The video was debuted at the gallery opening, "the night was a success.  We'd never seen Cathrine happier."

An entirely too short time later Ms. Westergaard, would be diagnosed with and succumbed to cancer.

The Bittersweet video is additional footage from their final photo and video shoot together, which the band and Krupla found after her passing, and used to give a final tribute to a friend and collaborator."

Additionally, The Bushwick Hotel has been working on a new web series called Live By the Sword. Shot by the band and directed by Dale Krupla, the series takes place in their recording studio and on the road, where they invite local and touring bands to play live sessions and do some interviews.

And check out the Live By the Sword series, featuring performances and interviews from Bushwick, to Nashville, to Austin, and back:

Live By The Sword: Dan Mariska & The Boys Choir

Live By The Sword: The Burning of Rome

Live By The Sword: Bugs in the Dark

Live By The Sword: Telegraph

Live By The Sword: The Tye Trybe

Catch all this live on Saturday, November 19th at Our Wicked Lady, with performances by Raccoon Fighter & The Bushwick Hotel, featuring new material from the band's forthcoming EP, Hard Times, performed with a full horn section. Dress Classy and act trashy at this FREE black tie event - RSVP here

Cholo Goth is Real, and Genre Pioneers Prayers Represent with "Black Leather"

Watch their video, featuring Kat Von D

"Approach me with caution, cause I'm losing control" frontman Leafar Seyer warns in the first single off the San Diego industrial duo's forthcoming Baptism Of Thieves EP.

He walks through the cemetery and haunts Kat Von D, all the while possessing an air of an artist so confident in their individuality and expression that's even sharper than the black and white visuals. That's gangsta.

Prayers' next live performances will be at Coachella, April 17 & 24 on the Mojave stage, and promise more music on the way. Stayed tuned at their website, completely owning their genre with www.chologoth.com.

New Video: MS MR - "Criminals"

MS MR has come a looooong way since I first saw them at Glasslands (RIP) years ago, but despite their rocket ride to mass attention and super shiny pop evolution, Lizzy's voice is still amazing, and Max Hershenow still makes dope beats. This duo is an example of how popularity sometimes comes to the ones who deserve it, and they don't always completely sell out. What's even more refreshing, is that they're completely aware of this:

Lizzy and Max say: "This video is a reflection on the internal conflict we’ve been facing over the past few months as our indie selves and their pop counterparts fight for creative control of MS MR. We find ourselves in an odd place as a band, having made the personal choice to explore where we might fit in in the shiny and seductive pop realm (especially given our ambitious goals), while truthfully still being two art kids locked away in our DIY studio, thriving off our own musical naiveté and thirst to push artistic boundaries. Are we on the right path? Have we come too far? Do we want a way out?"

They just wrapped their How Does It Feel headline tour in the U.S., but look out Europe:

Single Premiere: Sunset Diver - "Tag Along"

Sunset Diver

Sunset Diver

Brooklyn-based Sunset Diver crafts lo-fi beachy pop tunes that transport your mind away from this urban jungle island of NYC to a more tropical island paradise.

His new track "Tag Along" is minimal yet captivating, sounding like a somber sunset over the ocean, with the waves rolling in and out in the background. Lyrically sparse, he sings to someone who's not there; someone who went out and never came home. "I left on a light / It was still on in the morning." As the tide comes and goes, the breeze also sighs through guitar loops. It's a song that sounds like it could easily be an early collaboration between Atlas Sound and Jens Lekman, exploring late night reveries on a 4-track.

Sunset Diver is Devin Johnson on guitar, synth, vox, samples, & loops, along with friend Ben Hozie (Bodega Bay) on bass. Together they recorded a forthcoming album that grew out of a live set Devin performed solo on two samplers.

In the meantime, more of Sunset Diver's ambient beach beats can be heard on his Bandcamp, but in case you get lost in the sounds, you may want to tell whoever's at home not to wait up.

New CocoRosie Album + Europe & US Tour Dates Announced!

The talented sisters of CocoRosie have announced their sixth studio album, due out this fall.

To announce the news, they've unveiled this behind the scenes video (by Fernando Portabales) they filmed during the recording process, featuring pieces of new songs "Hairnet Paradise" and "Big and Black":

Sisters Bianca and Sierra Casady had this to say about the still untitled new album:

"This will be our sixth record! Like many of our past records, we wrote and gathered much of the material at our farm studio in the south of France with minimal equipment, vintage toys and antique instruments. Going back to a '4-track' style approach, we limited ourselves to essential, acoustic accompaniment, played by us, and select percussion, toys from our old suit cases dating back to the "La Maison" days. Unlike our more psychedelic/electronic explorations of the last two records, our latest songs have a dusty southern feel with old-timey poetry. We ended up in Argentina where we finished the recordings and mixed the record with engineer Nicolas Kalwill with whom we've worked on two previous records. The spirit of Buenos Aires added to our already teen-romance-nostalgic-mood where we spontaneously shot a music video casting over 30 local girls."

BC Camplight's New Album, How To Die In The North, Streaming Now, Out Tuesday January 20

Float away with this latest release from Philadelphia-based BC Camplight. How To Die In The North is full of groovy retro melodies, infused with hazy psych reminiscent of early Caribou compositions.

BC Camplight is the musical moniker of Brian Christinzio, originally from New Jersey, but relocated to Philly after falling in with The War on Drugs and Sharon Van Etten. His smooth vocals caress your ears and puzzle your brain with lyrics like "Just because I love you / doesn't mean I love you." I don't know, but I think it does.

Stream the whole record now, get a legit copy on Tuesday when it comes out on Bella Union.

Sia's new video for "Elastic Heart," featuring 12 year old dancer Maddie Ziegler and Shia LaBeouf

Apparently a lot of people were freaked out by this video of a preteen girl and grown man dancing in such an emotionally charged manner. To me this choreography doesn't come across as creepy or sexual. It's intense and animalistic, but it feels more like pure expression of two frightened caged animals bonding instead of fighting. Maddie expresses herself like a little wild wolf cub, and it's really cool she has this outlet - not to mention she's a super talented dancer.

Elephant Stone's New Release "Knock You From Yr Mountain"

There is some psych pop magic going on here with this track, a brand new release from Montreal-based Elephant Stone. Formed by bassist/sitarist Rishi Dhir, this band makes some deep grooves and wild solos that will take you on a journey. As far as the message, here's what Rishi had to say about the track:

The song pretty much says what needs to be said. I look at the present state of the world; and it breaks my heart. I don’t understand how the leaders of the world see corruption, murder, war, and deceit as a way to lead their people. They do not represent us, they seek to control us. We need a change. Will all the craziness happening in the world right, we felt it was an appropriate time to release "Knock You From Yr Mountain". I always hold onto the hope that one day mankind will realize that two wrongs do not make a right.

- Peace and love

- Rishi

Their new album, Three Poisons will be out August 26 on Hidden Pony.
